6 Reasons Why You Should Be a Digital Nomad

We’ve been digital nomads for over 2 years now and it’s honestly been one of the best decisions we have ever made. I can’t tell you how many people tell us how jealous they are and how they’d love to live the way we do. Well I’m here to tell you that this lifestyle is not beyond anyone. We’re no more special than anyone else. If you’re interested in being a digital nomad then you can and here are 6 reasons why you should!

Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you couldn’t be a digital nomad, especially people who have no knowledge of the lifestyle that you desire. You wouldn’t go to your plumber for medical advice so be careful who you listen to. People will project their own fears onto you which are rarely based on concrete evidence. I used to think that we couldn’t travel with a baby. I’m not sure where that knowledge came from but it was simply untrue. At just 3 years old, Taji has lived in 11 countries.

People often assume travelling full-time is expensive. In fact, being a digital nomad is as cheap or as expensive as you want it to be. We consider ourselves to be mid-budget travellers. We’re not backpackers, we’ve never stayed in a hostel and don’t intend to, it’s just not our style. On the other hand, we also avoid hotels unless we’re celebrating an occasion. Hotels are an unnecessary expense. We actually save so much money living this lifestyle. Our monthly expenses (rent, groceries, eating out & transport) are rarely above £1000 a month.

There is nothing better than creating your ideal life. Want to live by the beach, you can! Want to eat out every day, you can! Want to go off-grid and get away from people, do your thing! The best thing about this lifestyle is that you are free to live however you choose! You get to live life completely on your own terms. That is true freedom.

We often say that we live in a bubble as digital nomads. We have the privilege of switching off of the madness happening in the west when we want to. It’s easier to protect your peace living abroad. We don’t have to deal with annoying co-workers, sitting in traffic or fake news unless we choose to.

Most people love to travel but when flights cost £700 a pop you might be limited to 1 long haul trip per year. Living abroad makes it far easier to see more of the world. We spent 2019 in South East Asia. We lived in 5 different countries that year. It was easy to travel across Asia when the average cost of a flight was £50 from one country to another.

We’ve found that our laptop lifestyle has allowed us to meet other people who think more like we do. We’re a little out of the box in our thinking of most topics but almost all of the people we’ve connected with while travelling have become friends/family. If you’ve ever felt like you don’t quite fit in living in your ‘hometown’ then being a digital nomad may be a great way to connect with others who share your way of thinking.
